Name
Psychosis and Violence: Disentangling the Complex Links
Description

Although most people with psychosis are not violent to others, there is indeed an elevated risk for violence amongst people suffering from psychotic disorders. Based on a recent scientific review paper by the presenter, this presentation will offer some insights into the various different pathways to violence amongst people suffering from psychosis. These pathways involve numerous factors, such as childhood conduct disorder; abuse and victimization; substance-related problems; and the nature and manifestation of psychotic symptomatology itself. There is reason for optimism and hope, however, because there are promising treatment options for the promotion of health and reduction of risk.
