C: How updating memories helps people reclaim their life after trauma with cognitive therapy for PTSD
This workshop presents a key feature of the effective CT-PTSD treatment, based on the Ehlers & Clark cognitive model for PTSD: updating trauma memories. A variety of individualised approaches can be used to help people address the significant meanings associated with their traumatic experiences. These allow the memories to move from being re-experienced to being fully recognised as simply ghosts from the past. In turn, when the past is no longer so present, people can embrace a new future.
